2022 - Friday 21st October - Brixham breakwater, Devon.

With the weather forecast for the day of the final showing winds from the south of over 50mph, which would make the original venue of Slapton Sands unfishable, the decision was made two days prior to the final to move to the reserve venue of Brixham Breakwater. Should the weather forecast prove correct then Brixham Breakwater would be well protected from a very rough sea from the south. On arrival at the venue on the morning of the final the weather forecast had been correct with a strong and gusty southerly wind but a calm sea at the breakwater.

 When the anglers arrived at their pegs, which had been drawn the evening before, a variety of fishing methods were being set up targeting different fish. Float fishing was popular with hooks either set high for mid to surface feeding fish or lower down and there was also the option of using baits fished on the bottom. For those prepared to lose some terminal tackle there was also the tackle grabbing rocks at the base of the breakwater. On the day all methods produced fish despite the strong winds and heavy rain. An all round good team performance resulted in the home team of South West being the 2022 champions.

 Next year's final will be fished on the river Tyne at Newcastle 24th November 2023.

Please note that accommodation for these finals is booked at least a year in advance and numbers are based on the regional teams that we know will be taking part. If you want to bring your partner or make the event a family holiday you must contact the angling council first, do not approach the hotel.

Scoring is total number of position points, where first in zone gets one point and last a possible eleven, ie. three zone wins would give a team total of 3. If a team has only two members then they will be credited 12 points for the missing team member. No fish caught gets that competitor twelve points.
